"Limiting the availability of tobacco products to people under 21-years-old is a good idea," Councilman Michael Staff told Daily Voice. "The long term effects of cigarette smoking on young people has been well-documented."
An ordinance that will be introduced at the board meeting this coming Monday was first drafted in advance of Governor Christie's veto of similar statewide legislation in January, Staff said.
The borough would join several other Bergen County municipalities -- among them, Englewood and Teaneck -- that have boosted the tobacco-buying age to 21.
"Oradell is setting an example that I hope more towns follow," Staff said.
